Egg Fast Orange Dreamsicle Smoothie

I love to make smoothies, they are fast, easy and delicious.  I usually make this smoothie with my vanilla whey protein powder.  This week I will be doing an egg fast, so I was playing around with this idea.  Could I make my favorite smoothie “Egg Fast” Friendly, well I am happy to report that I did!   I still prefer my whey smoothie with almond milk but this will do the trick for my intermittent egg fasting days.  I know what your thinking, “Raw egg….in a smoothie?” Well yes, however because you are adding the hot tea which ends up being at least 169 degrees, you are in essence heating it to the point of being safe to eat!  And no it doesn’t scramble the egg because you are blending it smooth and silky, so no worries it’s safe to drink!   This smoothie is  a healthy blend of fat, protein and taste!  Don’t be alarmed if your smoothie comes out a Rosie hugh of pink, there is hibiscus flower in the tea that gives it that lovely shade.  You can make any flavor with this versatile recipe, I am going to try different variations with fruit flavored herbal teas!  Now, my mind has a tendency to wander…..so I said hmm, I wonder if this could be made into a frozen dessert?  Well the answer is YES!  I made the mixture minus the ice and poured it into my ice cream maker, I also just poured some into little mason jars and froze them.  Its delish, but that will be a separate post it deserves its own space!  ~Click here for Orange Dreamsicle Frozen Dessert Recipe~IMG_4601[1]

So starting tomorrow, I will be starting my egg fast after the weekends festivities and a little over indulgence.  I usually lose about 5 pounds for the week and get my cravings under control.  My appetite gets drastically reduced also and I have to remind myself to eat after about the second day!  I highly recommend trying it, especially to refocus and get your body into a state of ketosis.   Please give this recipe a try and feel free to experiment with different flavors, I’d love to hear back from you!

Great question Missy, yes….and by adding the boiling hot tea it ends up being safe to eat (it gets cooked) and still has a smooth texture because your blending it so fast.

I heard a chef on food network say that if you nuked a raw egg for ten seconds it would be safe to eat, do you think that is true? I do this myself and I haven’t had any problems

Hi Lorrene! I’ve never tried it but I know the egg is safe to consume in the smoothie as the water is usually over 165 degrees:) I hope you try it! Thanks so much for popping over to my page, its much appreciated!

Hi! This looks amazing and I can’t wait to try it. One question : should you consume right after making, or can it be made for breakfast the night before? Thank you!

Yum!! I made this for breakfast on day 2 of my first egg fast … I used Strawberry Pomegranate tea and Truvia packets. I didn’t have any syrup so just added vanilla extract … It was amazing!! Tasted like a strawberry and cream milkshake!
